When we return to campus, community building and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) will be our priority. The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) defines SEL as, “the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.” As an organization, Cardinal Hayes is committed to develop a detailed plan to reengage all students, staff and families. The school is in the process of creating a committee of individuals who will be able to organize, plan and develop SEL programming for faculty, students and parents. The committee will seek input from administration, guidance counselors, faculty, students and parents. SEL will not just be a talking point, but embedded in our curriculum and the fabric of our school’s identity.
At this time we have not determined whether or not we will be able to offer mass each morning. If we are unable to do so, we will provide links to live and recorded daily masses posted by the Archdiocese of NY.
We will continue to offer our students opportunities to participate in daily prayer and spiritual formation as well as co-curricular programs and activities while ensuring everyone’s safety. We look forward to sharing these plans with you in the coming weeks.
