Principal’s Remarks

Principal’s Remarks

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope that you and your families are safe and well. I am writing to inform you that Cardinal Hayes High School has submitted its plan for reopening to the New York State Department of Education. This reopening plan, along with other areas specifically dedicated to the safety and health procedures we have developed and submitted to the Department of Health in July, are posted on this website for your review. Our plan is the culmination of months of work by the school’s Reopening Committee of administrators and teachers, as well as the input we have received from our faculty and parents.

Pending the governor’s approval, Cardinal Hayes High School  will open in September in a “Hybrid” learning model, with the option for parents either to send their sons to school for on-site learning twice a week with remote learning taking place on the other days of the week, or to keep them home for “100% At Home” learning, with all lessons occurring asynchronously. In order to actualize the various components of our plan, the school is updating its facilities to meet all the health and safety guidelines that ensure physical distancing can be practiced and classrooms properly ventilated; purchasing additional Chromebooks for distribution to students working remotely; purchasing licenses for online tools that will allow our teachers to record and post lessons online; and, of course, organizing professional development activities for our remarkable faculty, who are not only tasked with providing your child with a comprehensive education plan, but also with assuring he is socially and emotionally prepared for the transition back to school.  Additionally, in order to prepare for unforeseen possibilities necessitating either the delay of on-site learning in September or the school’s closure on short notice, the school has developed an enhanced “Remote” learning model of instruction that builds on the “Emergency Remote Plan” developed in March.

We intend to support everyone in the Hayes community and we look forward to your input in helping to make Hayes a space that fosters an environment that is nurturing, safe and prioritizes the complete well-being of our entire family.  We thank you for your efforts in supporting your sons during these challenging times, and for staying committed to our institution.

Throughout the course of the year we will keep you informed of any updates or changes directly within this COVID-19 dedicated site on our school webpage, and will continue to provide updates via email and on our Schoology platform.  We will be hosting another Zoom parent meeting at 6pm on Tuesday, August 18, but please feel free to contact the school before then if you have any questions or require clarification.
We are indeed looking forward to the day when we can all be back together in the halls of our beloved school.

Up Hayes and All Its Loyal Men!

Sincerely,

Mr. William D. Lessa
