The mission of the Mathematics Department of Cardinal Hayes High School is to work within a Catholic framework to lead students to discover and appreciate the breadth and beauty of the many fields of mathematics. Through courses in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus and calculus, students learn to discover patterns in numbers and in the world around them; to develop a general set of principles for reasoning about those patterns; and to apply those principles in problem solving. Special attention is paid to applying mathematics to real life situations. We strive to foster a life-long love of learning and to provide the skills necessary for success in their further studies, in their chosen careers and in their everyday lives.
