Cardinal Hayes Mourns the Loss of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

The Community of Learners that is Cardinal Hayes High School joins the worldwide Roman Catholic Church as we mourn the loss of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. We pray for the repose of his soul and in thanksgiving for his eight years as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church. We remember with joy his visit to New York City on April 20, 2008, when Cardinal Hayes High School hosted the hundreds of Eucharistic Ministers assigned to the Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium. It was also a historic moment for the Cardinal Hayes High School students that joined Pope Benedict and 20,000 other young people for a youth rally at St. Joseph’s Seminary. A Mass will be celebrated in the Cardinal Hayes Chapel for the repose of the soul of our late Holy Father on Friday, January 6, 2023 as we join the church in its nine days of mourning for Pope Benedict XVI. May he rest in peace.
