West Side Story German Castillo '25

News 12 Staff
German Castillo, 14, plays the saxophone in Cardinal Hayes High School’s band and has a strong background in dance, which got him on the big screen in Steven Spielberg’s remake of “West Side Story.” Castillo danced at the National Institute in Manhattan, which cleared the way for this opportunity.  He dedicated plenty of work to his practice and spent a summer rehearsing before the August 2019 shoot.

Despite the pandemic pushing the movie’s release back about a year, Castillo and his family were ready and waiting in the movie theater on the day of its release. Castillo says the once-in-a-lifetime experience may end up being just that, but he will always hold the memories of this production.  He now wants to focus on pursuing a career in law.
