President's Christmas Message

"The magi, as you know, were wise men–wonderfully wise men–who brought gifts to the Babe in the manger.  They invented the art of giving Christmas presents… But in a last word to the wise of these days let it be said that of all who give gifts these two were the wisest.  Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest.  Everywhere they are wisest.  They are the magi."

-O.Henry

Dear Cardinal Hayes Family and Friends:

One hundred and sixteen years ago, in a New York restaurant on Irving Place that is still in business, O. Henry wrote "The Gift of the Magi" about a young married couple who gave each other Christmas gifts of the most valuable but simple things they had.  The allegory speaks of the sacrifice each made for the other to provide a meaningful Christmas gift to the other.

During this season of hope, during another difficult year, the men of Hayes and their supporters continue to excel and share their gifts, valuable and simple.  This has been another year of sacrifice by alumni, board members, parents and guardians, faculty and staff, and our wonderful students.  Despite the obstacles, Cardinal Hayes students continue to achieve at high levels in and out of the classroom.  This is a direct result of the sacrifice and the gifts so many people provide to these young Hayesmen.

Men of Hayes, families, friends, and supporters, you are the magi!  We wish you a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.
