A Message of Thanksgiving

Dear Cardinal Hayes Community,

During this most difficult of years, I am compelled to express my gratitude and thanks to the entire Cardinal Hayes community. I came to Cardinal Hayes expecting to do a job, and instead found a family.

To our students and parents, I thank you for your continued understanding of the value of a Hayes education for your brilliant young sons. Cardinal Hayes continues to set a standard of personal discipline and academic accountability that will serve our students long after their days as young high school students.

To our alumni and donors, I am overwhelmed by your generosity and genuine concern for the young men of Cardinal Hayes today. I continue to learn about thankfulness from Hayes alumni and donors who offer ideas, resources, and a palpable passion for the continued success of the school. You are all welcome back at Cardinal Hayes and I thank you.

I thank our faculty, coaches, staff, and administration for their flexibility and efforts in dealing with the countless changes to the school’s rhythm rendered by COVID. Yet, our school remains open to serve our students. We are Hayes strong.

We are also Hayes smart. I will stack our faculty and coaches up against any high school in New York City for intelligence, integrity, and genuine interest in our young men’s success. I thank the faculty and coaches for continuing their all‐important work of pushing our students toward excellence in all they undertake. This is a higher calling than simple teaching. Thank you.

Cardinal Hayes High School has an aura about it. I witness it at St. Patrick’s Day parades, football and basketball games, extra‐curricular events, and in countless conversations. The aura is all about you, the students, the alumni, the faculty, the coaches, and the staff. You are the heart and soul of this incredibly special place and I thank you.

Please join us on Thanksgiving Day at www.cardinalhayes.org for two special Hayes traditions. At 8:30 am EST ‐ Thanksgiving mass from the Cardinal Hayes chapel. At 10:00 am EST ‐ Virtual Turkey Bowl – a montage of Cardinal Hayes Turkey Bowl games throughout the years.

St. Paul tells us, “Give thanks always and for all things.” On this Thanksgiving, and always, I thank you for remaining Hayes loyal.  Up Hayes and all its Loyal Men!

Gratefully,

Michael Carey
President

The Mission of Cardinal Hayes High School, a community based in Roman Catholic values, is to inspire diverse young men of the New York City metropolitan area to become lifelong learners and responsible citizens. We will accomplish this goal by encouraging students' spiritual and intellectual growth through a rigorous college preparatory program of academics, extra-curricular activities, and personal discipline.
