Current Infrastructure and Assets

Cardinal Hayes High School currently has an up-to-date technology infrastructure. Please see Future Endeavors and Actions plans for information on how the school is planning to be prepared technologically for the next decade.

The schools fiber and category 5 wiring has only expanded into the guidance complex since Middle States last visit. We still have every learning environment wired with local network and Internet access.

Currently the school maintains 300 computers and laptops. We have 62 printers (22 of which are specifically just for the students in the labs. (This does not count the computers set up by BOE title funds)

We are currently running a Windows NT Server system with over 1100 user accounts.

Every member of the Hayes community has a user account. The student to computer ratio is 1 to 3.3. (This does not count the additional labs and laptop carts from BOE title funds)

We currently have 5 computer labs throughout the school (four of which are Windows 98 based and one which is Windows XP based). (This does not count the additional labs and laptop carts from BOE title funds)

We also have a few other learning/working environments for teachers and students that have additional computers – Read 180 lab, Guidance Center, Faculty Computer Room, Faculty Lounge, and the Library. These labs have Win98 computers; the Faculty Lounge has Win2000 systems, while the Library and Faculty Computer Room has Windows XP.

Most every classroom has one computer or laptop for teacher use.

We have 13 digital projectors and one Tandenberg video conferencing system.

All desktop and laptop computers used by staff members have the ability to connect to the internet and to send and receive e-mail.

All classrooms are connected to a video distribution system.

Training

Staff and Faculty are exposed to training opportunities directly from the technology department, their own department technology liaisons, S.W.A.T. (Students Working at Advancing Technology) as well as through in-house software, books, and web-based training

Much of the technology training is available through the NYC Archdiocese and Title IID from the NYC Board of Education. Notices of this training is put on our website as well as in staff mailboxes and the school office.

Website

The new school website located at http://www.cardinalhayes.org is a crucial hub in the fulfillment of our technology mission. It provides unlimited space for content/data/media for all classroom projects and school events. Launched just this year, content is already beginning to multiply. Students are able to access their email from home through our portal, and teachers post school work and documents for parent and student access via the website.

Additionally, the website serves as a modern communications hub for faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni. Teachers are able to view and reserve computer lab time.

New events for clubs and locations like the library are posted for all to see.
